Designed for a family of four, House of Three Volumes is a contemporary tropical residence that brings together the comfort of everyday living and the tranquility of a private retreat. The home is shaped by three interlocking volumes, each with its own identity, creating a quiet juxtaposition between modern architecture and traditional Indonesian tropical craftsmanship expressed through exposed timber joinery.
From the corner of the site, the composition gradually unfolds through a floating concrete volume, a warm timber pavilion, and a grounded base wrapped in Shou Sugi Ban. Together, these layers create a home that feels both sculptural and deeply connected to its landscape.
The journey begins with a gentle ramp alongside cascading water from the swimming pool, offering a calm transition from the city into the home. At its heart, a naturally ventilated double-height living and dining space opens seamlessly to the courtyard, where filtered daylight, timber structure, and nature become part of everyday family life.
The elevated tropical pavilion houses the master suite and the owner’s private mancave, overlooking the pool as a secluded retreat. A restrained palette of charred timber, textured concrete, and handcrafted timber structure gives the residence a timeless warmth where architecture, nature, and family exist in harmony.
